The all-new 2016 Honda Civic has just hit the dealer lots and is already having problems. Late last week Honda announced a stop-sale order on new Civics with the 2.0-liter engine “due to potentially missing or misset piston pin snap rings that may cause engine stall or failure.” That is not good!
American Honda has already sent out a stop sale notice to all dealerships in the United States until the affected vehicles can be inspected. The pin snap ring issue is only affecting 2016 Civic models equipped with the 2.0 liter base engine. Any 2016 Civic models equipped with the 1.5 liter Turbo engine should be fine.
Anyone owning a 2016 Civic with a 2.0 liter engine will have their vehicles inspected and though Honda has not come out with specific details about their action plan, they will be providing a formal notification to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Friday, February 5.
Once the NHTSA acknowledges the formal notification, Honda will release a statement with more details.
